With the holidays fast approaching, it’s time to give your jewelry the TLC it needs.
It’s pretty well known that freshly cleaned jewelry looks the best. Diamonds shine brighter, gemstones take on a more vibrant color, and your gold and silver looses any dullness it might’ve displayed from buildup and grim.
To get the best, most thorough clean, we recommend visiting our shop where John will check your jewelry and clean it. We know that this time of year is filled with busyness and you might not be able to find the time to visit, so here’s a backup plan!
To clean your jewelry at home, add a few drops of mild dish detergent (Dawn is recommended) in warm water. Let your jewelry soak in the solution for a few minutes and then gently scrub each piece with a new, soft toothbrush (the baby version works best). Rinse in a bowl of lukewarm water. Gently dry with a cloth or towel.
PEARLS: Pearls are delicate and require a slightly different method of cleaning. While wiping your pearls with a soft cloth after every wear is recommended, it probably doesn’t happen often. If the pearls are stained, dip a soft cleaning cloth into a mixture of lukewarm water and a few drops of Dawn and gently wipe the pearls. (Do not submerge the pearl necklace in water as it can weaken the silk thread) Let them fully dry before storing.
While these methods work well for at-home cleaning, there is no substitute for getting your jewelry cleaned by your jeweler. While there, ask about our Lavish jewelry cleaner to make at-home cleanings between visits even easier!
*These methods are ok for many pieces of jewelry, but if you are unsure or need help on caring/maintaining your jewelry, always consult with your jeweler*
